Xuan Truong is the capital of the Xuân Trường District, located in the northeast of Nam Định Province in Vietnam. It borders the province of Thai Binh province at the north, Hải Hậu District at the south, Giao Thủy District at the east, Trực Ninh District at the west. Xuan Truong is surrounded by three rivers, the Red River, Ninh Co River, and So River and provincial road No 489 runs.

Xuan Truong is the capital of the district and controls 19 communes: Xuan Thuong, Xuan Ngoc, Xuan Kien, Xuan Tien, Xuan Ninh, Xuan Vinh, Xuan Trung, Xuan Phuong, Tho Nghiep, Xuan Dai, Xuan Bac, Xuan Thuy, Xuan Phu, Xuan Hong, Xuan Tan, Xuan Phong, Xuan Thanh, Xuan Hoa, Xuan Chau.
Under the Le time, Xuan Truong district was belong to Thien Truong court, Tran Son Nam to the Nguyen time was belong to Xuan Truong court. In 1945 the district was changed to Xuan Truong and belong to Nam Ha province in 1965. In 1967 the district merged Giao Thuy into Xuan Thuy. The district re-established old name 3/1997.
Xuan Truong is the main of province's rice growing. Xuan Dai Rice-Rice for dedicating to the King is still cultivated on 1,000 ha/year. The district has many traditional craft villages such as mechanic village (Xuan Tien), Village of mulberry planting and silkworm raising, pulling cocoons (Xuan Hong), embroidery village (Xuan Phuong), village of wine cooking (Xuan Ninh ), rice paper Xuan Kien…Xuan Truong is the land of culture and history which was home of outstanding revolutionist, represented as: General Secretary Truong Chinh, Diputy President of Congress Dang QuanThuy, hero of army force Pham Gia Trieu, Nguyen Dang Kinh ... Xuan Truong is place for Catholicism spreading. Here, many churches concentrating at high density and large scale.
